About the role
T&G Lanka is a foreign-owned electronics and engineering company manufacturing fibre optic and copper cable systems and precision components for export.
The selected Project Engineer – Mechanical will lead a new project for the manufacture of connector parts and will be responsible for coordinating engineering, procurement, machinery, manufacturing processes, technical documentation, quality, safety, and project delivery within required deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
~ Read brochures and engineering drawings to define project scope and scope of work.
~ Work with the purchasing department and vendors for material sourcing, tool selection, and machine selection.
~ Oversee installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of machinery and equipment.
~ Collaborate with production teams to improve manufacturing processes and efficiency.
~ Conduct research and analysis to improve product performance and cost-effectiveness.
~ Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and process standards.
~ Prepare technical documentation, reports, and specifications.
~ Support the establishment and execution of the connector-parts manufacturing project.
~ Coordinate project activities while maintaining deadlines and technical standards.
Requirements
~ Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
~ Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
~ Knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, milling, turning, drilling, and grinding.
~ Knowledge of CNC programming and experience optimizing CNC programs to improve manufacturing efficiency.
~ Knowledge of materials such as aluminium alloys, stainless steel, bronze, composites, and surface coatings/finishes.
~ Experience in selecting and optimizing cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding devices.
~ Ability to read engineering drawings.
~ Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor for 2D/3D design.
~ Good understanding of GD&T and CMM.
~ Strong spoken and written English.
~ Excellent research, analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
~ Ability to understand situations quickly and develop practical solutions.
~ Good organizational and planning skills.
~ Ability to work independently and responsibly.
